Karibu Tours believes in immersing their guests in the culture of Rwanda, allowing you to see all the beauty and intrigue that is offered.
You are welcome to include a visit to any of our projects on your itinerary.
Cathy moved to Rwanda in 2003 and began working with Rosamond Carr, director of Imbabazi Orphanage and author of “Land of a Thousand Hills, My Life in Rwanda”. “The year I spent living with the children at Imbabazi orphanage and spending time with Roz herself was invaluable and unforgettable” says Cathy. It was Roz who inspired Cathy to begin her own projects helping the vulnerable population of her chosen community.
Uwayo “Teste” was born and raised in Ruhengeri, but spent much time with his grandparents in Jambo Beach, near Akagera National Park. Teste’s early curiosity about his country, Rwanda’s culture and traditions, its animals and the vast difference in terrain within our small nation, enable him to show you the heart of Rwanda
ONGOING PROJECTS
PREFER’s first project began in 2004 with the distribution of goats to vulnerable families in the Kinigi area and has continued to now include other districts within our province. To date PREFER’s “Kinigi Goat Project” is responsible for distributing over 300 goats to vulnerable families.

Karibu Tours, together with PREFER, currently has a program of sponsorship for secondary students. These students consist of orphans and children from single parent families. Tuition, room, board, all clothing and school necessities are supplied for each student.
As of January 2007 we proudly sponsor 16 students attending various schools throughout North province.
Another project that Karibu Tours/PREFER began in 2006 was the reparation of homes lived in by teenage heads of households. To date we have concentrated on the Gasanze Sector of Musanze District, and have put on a new roof, repaired insulation to outside walls and added new windows for many homes.

Karibu Tours, in collaboration with PREFER, is in the process of constructing a pre-school for the vulnerable children of Kinigi. The land has been purchased, cleared and fenced with construction of the school building to commence 2008. This school will enable those children with no, or little, parental support to obtain life and educational skills that will allow them an easy transition when they begin primary school. 75% of students will be sponsored by Karibu Tours/PREFER and pay no school fees. Outdoor classes are currently being held with 63 children in attendance.
